National Louis University celebrates 125th anniversary with Gala Celebration
As a formal tribute to their 125-years of service and commitment to the people of Chicago by providing a quality education for working adults, National Louis University hosted a special celebration on January 19, 2012, with many distinguished guests—among them Andrew Mason, CEO and Founder of Groupon and Patricia and Martin "Mike" Koldyke. Mr. Koldyke is founder and chairman emeritus of the Academy for Urban School Leadership and founder and chairman emeritus of the Golden Apple Foundation. Mrs. Koldyke serves on the board of the Golden Apple.
Dr. Nivine Megahed, president of National Louis University, presented Mr. Mason and Mr. & Mrs. Koldyke with the first annual Pioneer Awards, awarded to individuals who exhibit exceptional character and a sense of higher purpose in their lives and work; thereby increasing opportunity and quality of life for others. These qualities reflect the core values of National Louis founder, Elizabeth Harrison, as well as the university.

World Press Institute fellows make their regular stop to see Kevin Conlon, gain insights on the 2012 Presidential race
10 journalists from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Finland, India, Moldova/Romania, Pakistan, and Uganda got an insider’s view of campaigning for American’s highest office from Kevin Conlon while on the Chicago leg of their tour of the United States.
Every year as part of a two-month stay, World Press Institute fellows are exposed to the free press system in America and the social and cultural diversity here, with a trip across the country that includes visiting big cities and small towns, as well as opportunities to meet business leaders, political leaders, and such cultural icons as Garrison Keillor and Charlie Rose.

Conlon Public Strategies helps pull together first-of-its-kind Groupon deal for National Louis University
Accustomed to seeing awesome deals on smaller purchases, Groupon’s Chicago subscribers were surprised to see an amazing deal on a college course popping up in their inbox. “It wasn't as cheap as $10 for a pedicure or $20 for fitness classes,” wrote Jodi Cohen in the Chicago Tribune, but the deal for an Introduction to Teaching class at National Louis University (NLU) “tipped,” and in all, 18 students took advantage of the offer. In the meantime, putting the NLU brand out in front of thousands of loyal Groupon subscribers—not to mention CNN, readers of Slate, The Atlantic, and countless other regional and local media outlets—also meant measurable success for the client.

Kevin Conlon named to the University of Illinois Alumni Association Advisory Committee
In July, Kevin Conlon was welcomed to the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA), where he will serve as a member of the association's Advocacy Committee.
Connecting alumni to the University of Illinois as well as to one another, the UIAA encompasses more than 600,000 alumni who are part of the world's largest alumni community.
Village of Wilmette Appoints Chris Dunn to Second Term as Environment Commission Chair
Wilmette Village President Chris Canning has appointed Chris Dunn to an additional three-year term as Chair of the Village’s Environmental and Energy Commission. The Commission, created in 2008 as an advisory body, provides recommendations and guidance to the Village Board. Dunn was the Commission’s first Chair.

Chris Dunn received the Crystal Apple Award from the Golden Apple Foundation’s Board of Directors in recognition of his successful efforts to preserve full state funding for the Golden Apple Scholars Program in an extremely challenging fiscal climate.

Golden Apple and Urban Initiative Change the Course of One Young Man's Life
As featured in the Chicago Tribune, two organizations with which Conlon Public Strategies has worked closely, Golden Apple and Urban Initiatives, together, helped open new doors of opportunity for one young man raised in Cabrini Green. The Golden Apple Foundation through its scholarship program recruits and prepares prospective young people for teaching careers in needy communities. Urban Initiatives operates health and education soccer program that empowers Chicago Public School students to live healthier lifestyles, promotes the value of education, and enhances personal and social development of its participants.

Kevin Conlon Elected Vice-President of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago
The Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago in their Spring Newsletter announced its newly elected board. Kevin Conlon and Chris Kennedy will serve as Vice-Presidents of the club for 2011. The Irish Fellowship Club promotes friendship and fellowship among its members while encouraging community spirit and civic engagement.

Kevin Conlon Addresses The ARC of Illinois Leadership Conference
Leaders and activists from across the state gathered on February 10 at The Arc of Illinois and ICEARC Leadership Conference. Kevin Conlon shared with the group strategic insights on engagement in effective advocacy despite the challenging fiscal climate. The ARC of Illinois is the state’s leading advocacy group for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
